According to the latest stats, about 4% of all types of cannabis businesses are owned by black people and when it comes to dispensaries, the stats vary. It’s been reported that between 1% and 2.8% of dispensaries are owned by black people. The really alarming part is that we are underrepresented ON PURPOSE. Social equity programs are great in concept but haven’t been very successful. This industry was designed to keep us out and help the rich majority increase their wealth. The barriers to entry are high, far and wide but if we do this together, we can become significant players in this market. There’s not much time before the industry is fully formed, fully legalized and we’re left out once again. So if winning is in our future, we have to take it TODAY!
